up there

I recently watched a well done mini film about the men behind the hand painted advertisements seen on big buildings in big cities. It may not strike you as the most interesting subject- but ill tell you what i love about it. Their livelihood is being threatened by the big bang of a digital world. They maintain an old school method despite their industries movement towards more efficiency. Technology will always advance and leave those who do not adapt behind, but some will continue to put up a fight to do things the traditional way. Most people these days move too fast to take the time to do things the right way; so slow down people and learn from those who do it best.

Whatever Happenned?

The ways of the world blind us from seeing the truly important, beautiful affairs that point us towards living beyond ourselves. When the world respected private property more than it cherished human life, something must be done. And true change comes from an active lifestyle. So jump on the soul train, dig this sound because for just once, its just us kids living, playing the day away, kicking over statues to the rhythm of the beat. There's no danger in exploration and searching. To live and be alive means to question and to love means we ought to be able to say yes before no. Nothing but hope and revolution and its very real, happening right now.

The Adventures of Bobby Ray

B.o.B has a pretty legit track record for having never released an album. That is until today when The Adventures of Bobby Ray hits the scene. One of the songs intended for the Album I have posted below, it did not make the cut due to copyright issues which makes sense as it is a Coldplay sample. Expectations are high for the album and I wouldn't be surprised if B.o.B. delivers.

B.o.B.- Not Lost ft. T.I.

shunday

one more day to shun your monday-friday. i like the idea of keeping Sunday a video watching day because we are all usually in recovery and videos are easy, and better full screened

Giggs

I have already given my props to my man Phillip Annand whom has recently convinced me that UK rap has relevance to a US rap audience through his display of artist Giggs a.k.a The Hollowman. Maybe he will convince you:

"Now this style of rapping may not be your cup of tea. This is no Lupe Fiasco verse where you need eight dictionaries, a thesaurus, and linear notes to decipher the first two bars. I would liken Giggs to the UK’s version of Young Jeezy. Perhaps maybe not the most lyrical rappers, but they know how to make every young man in a crowd grab his belt, pull up his jeans, slap someone on the back and say “Daaaaamn” bar after bar after bar. I’m a believer."

If you can watch it with a certain attitude that eliminates expectation you will find yourself liking it too I think. And you just gotta remember, he is from a British Jamaican from the hood of London recently done serving time for a weapons charge.

The Anatomy of Cool

Today’s consumers are sick of mass marketing and the sameness of brands. They want to be delighted, surprised and wowed by something that is authentic, different and off the mainstream. One of the reasons www.thecoolhunter.net has become so popular and influential is that we do not sell, market or create cool. We just give it an audience.

Window in the Skies

"U2 circa 1980"

U2 is undoubtedly a legendary band. Love em or hate em, they have been on the scene with consistensy for longer than I have been alive. What comes with that is a stale taste when you hear new U2 as if someone forgot to put a lid on them. I often disagree with their 'same old' new music or activist stances but put political issues or old age aside, respect is due. If you havent seen the music video for "window in the skies" then definitely take the time to watch it. its absolutely terrific

BING! you are now free to move about the country

Here is a video that I just loved because while he may be talking about bike riding he is talking about so much more

HARDfest is an LA based mini festival where people flat out are there to party and dance. It went to NYC this year and even though it may not be my usual style something tell me it would have been not to have fun here (ps: the video claims to be five min long, but is only about a minute long so dont waste your last four minutes on nothing)

And lastly, just good ole fun at international pillow fight day:

Exit through the Gift Shop

street artist BANKSY has earned a legendary reputation for his graffiti, only strengthened by its mystery. he is thought to be from London, but his true identity remains unknown to the public yet his often political messages have effected many. "Exit through the Gift Shop" debuted at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival where it awed many. The premise: a french filmmaker attempts to capture the popular movement of street art, with BANKSY as the central figure. As with anything involving the mystery man, what you may expect to find is not what you get. Should be coming to theaters near us in the coming month or so. give the trailer a look
